Two Tars for Free Arts

*click on image to see flyer*

Seasons Greetings, girls and boys
Les Coquettes are back and making sweet noise.
Celebrate the holidays and meet a dear new coquette
You'll fall madly in love with her, this you can bet!
Hailing from Italy, is the charming fair Cici
A most-welcome addition to Les Coquettes' amici.

And in the name of art and true spirit of giving,
We're saving arts programs with a part of our living.
Les Coquettes are giving to the Free Arts Foundation
Because Art is essential to the culture of this nation.
A portion of the proceeds will go to said charity
So that arts programs for kids don't become a rarity.

xx

this is belated, but we forgot to post the invite here for our last fete for Halloween.

Dear sweet lovers and fair, gentle friends,

It is time for us to reconvene once again.
Merci beaucoup for celebrating Lala's birthday last week.
We needed six days to recover and catch up on our sleep!
So now that we're rested and ready to go,
We're putting on a special pre-Halloween show.
Thursday night will be a Night of Mischief
Wear a costume, be naughty and slightly corruptive!

Lala's Birthday Bash

Once upon a time,
Gotham was gritty yet glamourous;
The town was painted blood red,
And its night owls were fabulous.

The scene was disco and punk,
During those decadent years.
Everyone felt sexy and drunk --
T'was the seventies, my dears.

Debbie Harry enthralled and sang of Rapture
And legend recounts what the lens couldn't capture.
Bianca wed Mick who then seduced Jerry,
So shortly thereafter, she left Bryan Ferry.

Grace Jones and Warhol were permanent fixtures
In nightclubs where they soaked up the fame from their pictures.
They say Halston and Liza and Truman Capote
Did A-Z drugs, like Valium and peyote.

In the midst of all that debaucherous hoopla
Was born a coquette to whom they cooed "Ooh Lala..."
It was October '77, and downtown was on fire,
And she felt the world burn with great lust and desire.

This Friday, in celebration of that fiery date,
Les Coquettes will recapture, relive and recreate.
(And by all means, if you'd like, feel free to procreate!)

In keeping with the theme, be mindful of what you wear
The objective is to make others stop and stare!

Darlings,

Saturday night was just "beyond," so to speak,
And now we expect to be in repose all week.

Les Coquettes are still -- how you say -- "floored"
From the most-memorable night full of those they adore.

Merci beaucoup...it's all thanks to you!

J'Adore Joey de Vivre

Hello, little kittens...it's time to be smitten!

Now from Tinseltown to Londontown,
We'd been trying to pin ze legendary Joey down.
In Monaco and Morocco, we heard he'd surely be found,
Only to discover he was nowhere around.

But just as we were about to give in to despair,
He appeared out of nowhere for tea at the Pierre!
He was going to Turks & Cacos the next day,
But with our coquettish charms we convinced him to stay.

So at the eleventh hour this Saturday night,
Joey Jalleo will thrill and delight.
At the SubMercer Bar he'll be flitting about
With Kiki & Lala till they kick us all out!

Come experience the much sought-after Joey de Vivre
And see for yourself why it's the stuff of livres.

Cutie-patooties, with your bite-able booties,

T'is sad that the summer is done,
We'll miss all the skin
(And its accompanying sin)
But the Autumn fun's just begun.

Tomorrow night, at our den on Rivington
We'll cozy up as if it's our living room.
And for the coronation
Of fashion week's autumnal celebration,
We'll be wearing the emperor's new clothes...
Hmm...well, we're sure you know about those.

Now open the flyer
It absolutely ON FIRE!

Darling dearests,
Whom we hold nearest,

Thank you for laughing and dancing last week,
You were so mirthful and loving that we couldn't speak
(and our hearts, they raced, and our knees went weak)!

So tonight, for you, our fun-loving friends
We're bringing you lightness and joy all over again!

Please send us your pics to post -- especially of last week -- it was paparazzi central that night!

We'd also like to to really thank everyone in attendance last week. Everyone got tossed and lost something at one point (a digital camera, two cell phones, clothes, a wallet!), and those who found them turned them in and got them back to their rightful owners! That's how trusting our parties are, and how trustful all of you are... You are the best lot of New Yorkers ever!

FREE MAMMOGRAMS IN NYC. Friday, 11 July 2008

For (uninsured) women -- especially those with a family history of breast cancer -- there will be free mammograms available at St. Vincent's Hospital tomorrow, Friday, 11 July 2008. Be sure to take advantage of this incredible service...It could save your life!!

Lala (Gabby) -- who's own mother and great grandmother passed away from the disease, and who happens to be working on her own breast cancer art book project to raise awareness and services for underserved, uninsured women -- will be receiving a mammogram and encourages all NYC women to take this important preventative measure. Early detection is key!

Thank you to the selfless and inspirational Marisa of Cancer Vixen who made this service possible!

Big Trouble Near Little China

Handsome women and beautiful men,
Allow Les Coquettes to seduce you again...

The summer solstice has now come and gone
So the days are as short as the nights are long.
And nocturnal creatures are happy to play
With more time to dance and have their way.

They celebrate Rosalyn's 30th birthday tonight
With special performances to thrill and delight!

Bring fun sunglasses, polaroids and hats
To Riv. 105 where the party is at!

Don't miss this one...big fun, Big Fun, BIG FUN!!

All That and Dimsum

Our dearest little dumplings,

We cordially invite you to the Korrupt dance party that we're hosting tonight with the likes of the lovely Jules Kim of Bijules, TasteNYC, Roxy and Justine D -- just to name a few. Mike Simonetti of genius label, Italians Do It Better, will be at the audio helm to keep your happy feet moving all night. $10 admission.

Here's the best part though...it's at 88 Palace -- a real-deal and very theatrical dimsum banquet hall. Just the change of pace needed on a weekend Manhattan night. It's on the second floor of a chinese mini-mall to add to the adventure of getting there. Go to 88 East Broadway @ Forsythe, underneath the bridge.

My Little Twin Stars

So last night, Lala went out to meet a friend for drinks.  The friend has only known her as her American persona, but was intrigued by her true identity as a coquette and her partnership with Kiki.

"So which one's Kiki, and which one's Lala?" he inquired.

The answer:

Kiki, left -- Lala, right

* just remember, Kiki has an irresistable head of curls that match her name:  kinky!

For that's when Kiki made her charming debut
As an infant destined to give the sweetest taboo.

We'd like to invite you to SubMercer Bar
For an amorous Kiki will turn the big 30
And celebrate 3 decades of being ever so flirty!

Bravo, Google!

I, Lala, just had to applaud Google for appropriating Diego Velazquez's Las Meninas painting yesterday for its default logo. The Spanish painters have always been my favourites, from El Greco (yes, I think the Spanish can claim him) to Zurbaran to Velazquez to GOYA to Picasso, Miro, etc. The Spanish hall was always a must in the Louvre for me.

I was disappointed that I had failed to do a screengrab of the appropriation yesterday while at work, but thanks to the wonders of the internet, someone else had of course. Moreover, some blogged about it. I read some disapproving criticisms that Google had wrongly opted to celebrate the artist's birthday over a memorial tribute to D-day, but it's not like the remembrance and significance of the liberating military operation wasn't recognised by countless others or suddenly eclipsed by Google's homage to Velazquez. (Why do people always think it's either-or?)

How wonderful that both events can be commemorated on the same day, simultaneously. It only makes the day more significant!

Bravo, Google!

See...

We hate to say we told you so, but -- well -- we did! We disclosed insider information on our heavenly little secret, Breathe Inn, last week; and just yesterday Daily Candy discovered it and announced its goodness to all of Gotham -- now they're nearly booked up for the summer, and to get a room you'll have to fight tooth and nail, like UES women clawing at Manolo's at the bi-annual Bergdorf shoe sale!

You heard it here first -- or at least you ought to have. Come here daily for tastings of all things chic and delicious. Les Coquettes forever ... because our daily bon-bons are timeless...

That said, here's what Daily Candy didn't share with you:

a sweet reminder...

Our darling Coquettes fanatics,

It's time again for our monthly dramatics!

At our first party -- at your behest -- we coyly revealed our glittering chests,
Which surprisingly inspired all the ladies to suddenly bear their - umm - "best"s.
The second was a striking black & white ball,
Replete with gowns and bling-bling and all.
The third, of course, was a proverbial charm --
To have been anything less would've been cause for alarm.

So -- never to disappoint or be outdone --
This Thursday will be a night of unprecedented FUN!
We've got a magical guest by the name of KiD Laptop,
Who shall prove at the decks he's the cream of the crop!!

Breathe Inn... Beauty Secret #1

Everyone asks us, "Mais, Kiki et Lala, qu'est-ce que c'est votre secret?" when marveling at the profusion of rest and relaxation in our bones.  And contrary to popular belief, the answer is not all the cake we nibble on or the grapes fed to us by our paramours du jour -- it's not even the preservatives of all the champagne we bathe in.

No, Les Coquettes are modern old-fashioned gals, who believe in the profound benefits of a more spiritual well-being.  And like l'amour, we believe in all things natural and aesthetically uplifting.

So, if you must know, the answer to your question is Breathe Inn -- our home away from home.

It's where we go for r&r and to detox from our indulgences de ville.  Quite possibly, it's the most beautiful, restful and inspirational place, outside of our native Gay Pareeeee -- and the proprietors are much lovelier and friendlier than our long-faced compatriots.  (Les americains are so delightfully charmantes!)

Breathe Inn is -- how you say? -- a B&B; but a very chic, soignee one with modern design sensibilities that are harmonious to its natural environment.  It's a revamped Victorian house, set back on several unspoiled acres upstate -- but no doilies here!  Furnished with John Robshaw sheets, Moroccan lanterns, a projector, a pool, a hammock (Lala's personal fave) and Banksy pieces and such, it's a Victorian home with panache.

Who would expect less from OG coquette, intn'l downtown style-setter/taste-maker, interior designer extraodinaire, Breathe Inn creator and most importantly, mother & friend, Camella Ehlke -- and natural chef hubby, Marlon Aitcheson?  Pas nous!
